COVID-19 services

Do you suspect a coronavirus infection?

Residents of Helsinki can complete a symptom assessment online at omaolo.fi. The service will provide you with instructions, and you can also book an appointment for a coronavirus test if necessary.

You can also seek testing by calling the Coronavirus Helpline, tel. 09 310 10024 (available every day 8:00–18:00).
It is important to also get tested for coronavirus in the summer when necessary. Get tested if you have symptoms consistent with the disease.

Health stations

Most of Helsinki’s health stations will be open Mon–Fri 8:00–16:00 from 1 June to 31 August.
Kivikko Health Station will be closed from 28 June to 1 August and Malmi Health Station from 28 June to 29 August. During this time, clients of these health stations will be directed to other health stations as follows:

  • Clients of Kivikko Health Station will be directed to Kontula Health Station, Ostoskuja 3, tel. 09 310 60410
  • Clients of Malminkartano Health Station will be directed to Kannelmäki Health Station, Kaustisenpolku 6 A, tel. 09 310 47355.

The call-back service of the self-treatment product distribution, tel. 09 310 55002, will be available 9:00–12:00 in the summer.

The centralised contraceptive advice service will be closed between 12 and 25 July, during which time clients are asked to visit their local health stations in urgent matters.

Wound care services will be closed between 12 July and 1 August, during which time clients are asked to visit their local health stations.

Retinal photography will be unavailable from 12 July to 8 August.

The child psychiatric team will not be operational between 19 July and 1 August.

Dental care

Dental care appointments can be made Mon–Thu 7:00–18:00 and Fri 7:00–15:00, tel. 09 310 51400.

You can also book an appointment in person at any dental clinic. The dental care chat service is open on weekdays 8:00–15:00 at www.hel.fi/hammashoito.

Some dental clinics will be closed for high summer:

  • The dental clinic at Herttoniemenranta Health Station from 28 June to 4 July
  • The dental clinic at Kivikko Health Station from 28 June to 8 August
  • The dental clinic at Laajasalo Health Station from 19 to 25 July

Emergency dental care will be provided at Myllypuro Dental Clinic throughout the summer and from 14 June onwards at the Oral and Dental Centre (Haartmaninkatu 1), at which time the emergency services at Kalasatama Dental Clinic will end. Appointment booking on weekdays 7:00–14:00, tel. 09 310 51400.

In the evenings, at weekends and on holidays, emergency dental care services are provided at Haartman Hospital at Haartmaninkatu 4, Building 12. Appointment booking Mon–Fri 14:00–21:00 and Sat–Sun 8:00–21:00, tel. 09 471 71110.

During the night (21–8), emergency oral and dental healthcare services are provided at Töölö Hospital, Töölönkatu 40. Please call in advance, tel. 040 621 5699.

The services of Meilahti Dental Clinic will be provided at the Oral and Dental Centre (Haartmaninkatu 1) from 8 June onwards.

The Unit for Specialised Oral Care will be located at the Oral and Dental Centre (Haartmaninkatu 1) from 9 June onwards.

The services of Kannelmäki Dental Clinic will be provided by other dental clinics from 14 June onwards.

Maternity and child health clinic and family services

Maternity and child health telephone services will be available from 1 June to 31 August 8:00–12:00, tel. 09 310 55530.

The maternity and child health clinic chat service will be open from 1 June to 31 August on weekdays 11:00–12:00.

You can book vaccination appointments for children under school age with your own nurse at www.maisa.fi.

Vaccinations are also provided without a separate appointment in connection with regular visits to the maternity and child health clinic.  

  • Itäkatu Maternity and Child Health Clinic will be open from 21 June to 15 August on weekdays 8:00–16:00.
  • Kallio Maternity and Child Health Clinic will be open from 21 June to 15 August on weekdays 8:00–16:00.
  • Vuosaari Maternity and Child Health Clinic will be open from 21 June to 15 August on weekdays 8:00–16:00.

 Jakomäki Maternity and Child Health Clinic will be closed from 28 June to 1 August and Maunula Maternity and Child Health Clinic from 5 to 25 July. During this time, the clients of these clinics will be directed to other maternity and child health clinics as follows:

  • Clients of Jakomäki Maternity and Child Health Clinic will be directed to Puistola Maternity and Child Health Clinic, Ajurinaukio 1, 00750 Helsinki
  • Clients of Maunula Maternity and Child Health Clinic will be directed to Paloheinä Maternity and Child Health Clinic, Paloheinäntie 22, 00670 Helsinki.

Open maternity and child health clinics will be closed from 1 June to 31 August.

The following special services for families will be closed between 19 July and 1 August:

  • Maternity and child health clinic psychologist services
  • Couples therapy
  • Family Counselling Office
  • Speech therapy
  • Therapeutic work for families with infants

Service Centres

The services open to everyone offered at the service centres will be closed throughout the summer.

During the summer, only supported group activities are organised in the service centres for clients who are separately invited to participate in the groups.

Outpatient clinics

Medical aid services, Ruosilantie 18, 00390 City of Helsinki, will be open in the summer from 1 June to 31 August 2021 Mon–Thu 8:00–16:00 and Fri 10:00–16:00.

The geriatric outpatient clinic (Sturenkatu 8, 2nd floor) will be closed from 12 to 25 July. This applies to the appointment and memory coordinator activities of the outpatient clinic.

The palliative outpatient clinic (Suursuo Hospital, Suursuonlaita 3 B) will be closed from 7 to 27 June. Patients will be directed to contact their local hospital if necessary.

Seniors and frontline veterans

The Senior Info telephone service will be available as usual weekdays 9:00–15:00 throughout the summer, tel. 09 310 44556, seniori.info@hel.fi

Services for war veterans to support living at home (Mannerheimintie 168 B, 2nd floor) will be available as usual throughout the summer, tel. 09 310 50544. The telephone service is open Mon–Thu 9:00–12:00, closed on Fridays.

The frontline veterans’ rehabilitation office will be open as usual during the summer. The telephone service is open Mon–Thu 9:00–12:00, closed on Fridays.

Medical aid services

Medical aid services will be available from 1 June to 31 August Mon–Thu 8:00–16:00 and Fri 10:00–16:00, tel. 09 310 47589.
The service point will be open from 1 June to 31 August Mon–Thu 8:00–16:00 and Fri 10:00–16:00.

Student health care

In summer 2021, student health care will be available at almost all educational institutions until Midsummer.
The centralised services for student health care will be available throughout the summer at Mechelininkatu 46 A, 4th floor.

The chat service for young people (aged 16–29) will be open on weekdays 12:00–15:00.

Community centres

Community centres will be closed during the summer as follows:

  • Community Centre Betania 3 May–8 August
  • Community Centre Mylläri 14 June–8 August
  • Kontula Local Centre 14 June–8 August
  • Hanna Partnership House and Oulunkylä Seurahuone 9–15 August
  • Malmi Activity Centre 14 June–8 August
  • Pihlajamäki Local Centre 14 June–8 August
  • Community Centre Saunabaari in Maunula 14 June–8 August
  • Vuosaari Local Centre 14 June–8 August
  • Community Centre Hopeala open from 1 June onwards

Western adult social work

  • Uusix workshops (Kyläsaarenkatu 8 and Suvilahdenkatu 10 A) will be closed from 5 to 30 July.
  • Pakila Work Centre will be closed between 5 and 30 July. The logistics department will serve social assistance clients as usual, but the goods will be delivered to the client’s home as agreed. Pick-up from the work centre will not be possible.
  • The work ability assessment unit will be closed 5–25 July.
  • The rehabilitative work activities unit will be closed 5–30 July.
  • The social rehabilitation unit will be closed 5–30 July.
  • Home care support groups of non-institutional work activities and Café Sumppila will be closed 5–30 July.
  • The activities of the nature and environment groups and the building and facilities management groups will be reduced between 5 and 30 July, during which time work activities will be offered in the available groups.

Northern adult social work

  • Social lending will be closed between 12 and 31 July.
  • The housing consultation chat service will be closed from 13 to 14 May and from 24 June to 31 July.

The social services counselling walk-in points will be closed as follows:

  • Haaga 2–15 August
  • Myllypuro 21 June–4 July and
  • Vuosaari 19 July–1 August.

Services for the disabled

The following units for work and day activities for the disabled will be closed from 5 July to 1 August.

  • Haavikko Training and Adult Education Centre
  • Cäpsä service unit for the disabled
  • Töölö service unit for the disabled
  • Vallila service unit for the disabled
  • Virtual services for the disabled
  • Kalasatama Activity Centre
  • Pasila Activity Centre
  • Polku Activity Centre
  • Sofianlehto Activity Centre
  • Tanhua Activity Centre

Where needed, replacement activities will be organised as purchased services or at the premises of Kalasatama Activity Centre.

Opening hours of the outpatient clinic for the intellectually disabled between 28 June and 8 August

  • The outpatient clinic for the intellectually disabled, Sofianlehdonkatu 8, Building A, will be open from Monday to Thursday 8:00–15:00 and Friday 8:00–14:00.

Please note! The outpatient clinic for the intellectually disabled will not provide medical services between 28 July and 8 August 2021.

Psychiatric and substance abuse services

The Kalasatama, Vuosaari and Laakso psychiatric and substance abuse services will be open as follows:

  • Kalasatama will be open 1 June–28 August 8:00–16:00, with the exception of substitution treatment, which will start at 7:00.
  • Vuosaari Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Centre will be open 1 June–27 August 8:00–16:00, with the exception of substitution treatment, which will start at 7:00.
  • Laakso Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Centre will be open 1 June–30 August 8:00–16:00, with the exception of substitution treatment, which will start at 7:45.

The Tuesday evening appointments at Malmi Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Centre will be replaced with day appointments from 1 June to 31 August.

  • The Opioid Substitution Assessment Clinic’s services will be reduced between 5 July and 8 August.
    (The services handle urgent matters relating to the assessment and access to
    substitution treatment.)
  • The substance abuse rehabilitation programme 1 will be closed from 28 June to 25 July, and programme 2 will be closed from 26 July to 15 August. These programmes will serve people referred to either programme throughout the summer if needed.
  • Rehabilitation programme 3 (Mankeli) will be closed from 28 June to 25 July.
  • Villa Sture will be closed 12–25 July.
  • The health and social welfare guidance of the Symppis centres in Itäkeskus, Kontula and Sörnäinen will be available on Mon, Tue, Thu and Fri 10:00–15:00 and Wed 9:00–14:00.
  • The Symppis communities will remain closed until further notice.
  • The physiotherapy and exercise services unit of the psychiatric and substance abuse services will be closed from 12 July to 1 August.
  • The Centre for Bipolar Disorder Research and Care will be closed 5 July–1 August.
  • The Group Therapy Centre will be closed 5 July–1 August.
  • Aurora Day Ward 10 will be closed 5 July–1 August.
  • Aurora Day Ward 8-1 will be closed 14 June–11 July.
  • Aurora Ward 15-5C will be closed 21 June–31 August.

Emergency services

In the evenings, at weekends and on holidays, patients in need of urgent care are treated at the emergency departments of Haartman, Malmi, Jorvi and Peijas hospitals and the New Children’s Hospital.

Please call 116 117 free of charge before visiting the emergency services. The service is available 24 hours a day.
