Coronavirus infections at Suursuo substance abuse rehabilitation department
Seven patients on the substance abuse rehabilitation department of Suursuo hospital have been diagnosed with a coronavirus infection on 5.11. According to the estimate of the epidemiological unit, all patients on the department may have been exposed to the infection.
None of the employees have been exposed, because they have strictly adhered to the protection guidelines.
As a precaution, the substance abuse rehabilitation department has been isolated. In practice, this means that all patients will be cared for in their own rooms, with caregivers using protective equipment anytime they perform care work. New patients are not admitted to the department at the moment.
All patients on the department will be subject to coronavirus testing.
- We are clarifying the infection source, but we do not yet know it for sure, Medical Director Laura Pikkarainen says.
The relatives of the patients have already been contacted and informed about the situation.
Suursuo Hospital has eight wards and a total of 200 beds. The hospital has terminal and palliative care, acute geriatric care, rehabilitation and substance abuse wards.
