New education guidance service for international families launched

The Education Division has launched a new guidance service as part of the current guidance services. The guidance service offers customer service by phone and face-to-face for international families in playgrounds and other locations. The service is aimed at families who have questions about education in Finland.

With the new guidance service, Helsinki wants to reach the non-Finnish speaking families as early as possible, give them individual guidance that answers their needs, and help them find the right education services. Customer service over the phone is available both in Finnish and in English.

The guidance service is targeted at international families who live in Finland, or are planning to move to Finland. To ensure the availability of the service for all, guidance is also offered outside the regular office hours.

“Guidance service answers the families’ questions about playground and playgroup activities, daycare centres and schools. The questions can regard topics such as the Finnish early childhood education and school system, applying to daycare or school, upper secondary education, study paths, using the Wilma web interface, or how to fill in a form”, says Project planner Elena Silverang who is in charge of the new service at the Education Division.

Phone consultation times

You can call the guidance service on Mondays and Wednesdays on +358 (0)9 310 33444. The customer service is open on Mondays from 2 pm to 5 pm and on Wednesdays from 9 am to 11 am and from 2 pm to 5 pm.

If you would like to have phone consultation outside the times above, please email us at and leave a call request.

Face-to-face consultation times

In addition to phone consultation, Helsinki residents can meet the service guides face-to-face on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in Meri-Rastila or Malmi. Please see further details in the schedule below. What is more, an Arabic-speaking service guide is available on Mondays and Thursdays.

“The aim of the face-to-face consultation is to go where the families that need answers to their questions are. Asking and replying to questions is easier when you meet the person in a more casual environment”, says Silverang.
