The celebrations begin on May Day eve 30 April traditionally at the Market Square, where Havis Amanda gets a foam bath at 5 PM and a student cap on her hear at 6 PM. The May Day celebrations affect the traffic and bring changes to the City’s services. The city is full of events and things to do during May Day – let’s celebrate the spring together!
On Tuesday 30 April, buses and commuter trains will operate a Friday service. On May Day, Wednesday 1 May, a Sunday service will operate. Tram routes and bus route 17 and 24 will be diverted in downtown Helsinki on Tuesday. There will be additional bus, metro and commuter train services on 30 April and on May Day. On May Day night, the metro and commuter trains to Helsinki Airport will operate later than usual. Public transport over the May Day bank holiday
Social services and health care
Health stations (also Kalasatama and Vuosaari health and well-being centres) are closed on First of May. Health stations are open on Tuesday 30 April 8-16.

May Day affects waste collection
During May Day (May 1st) week, we will empty some of the waste bins one day earlier or later than usual. Sortti Stations are open until 5 pm on April 30th and closed on May 1st. Read more: hsy.fi
