John Storgårds Philharmonic Orchestra?s 12th Chief Conductor
John Storgårds takes over as Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra?s 12th Chief Conductor in autumn 2008. Violinist-conductor John Storgårds begins a four-year tenure as Chief Conductor of the 125-year-old Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in autumn 2008. He has been guest conducting the orchestra since 1994 and was appointed as its Principal Guest Conductor in autumn 2003.
Leif Segerstam Chief Conductor Emeritus
In the 12 years since 1995 he has served as Chief Conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Leif Segerstam has annually conducted 8-12 concert productions in Finland, over 20 foreign tours and 21 recordings on the Ondine label. The most sizeable recording projects have been the complete Sibelius symphonies and the Rautavaara series of concertos, orchestral and vocal works. As a mark of its gratitude to Leif Segerstam for his valuable contribution to the orchestra?s artistic development, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra has appointed him Chief Conductor Emeritus as of October 1, 2007.
