The state of the Baltic Sea can be improved through cooperation
Turku and Helsinki will take serious actions to improve the state of the Baltic Sea. The cities have agreed on actions which aim at improving the quality of the water. At the same time, the cities challenge also other actors to participate in the work. Clear actions steer the mode of acting. The actions which the cities have decided on aim at decreasing both the point load and the diffuse load. The main themes of the actions which will be implemented are: to improve the sewer network, to decrease the load caused by the waste water of scattered settlement and agriculture, to dredge and deposit polluted sediments as well as to decrease the emission of waste water from ferry and boat traffic.
