Kalasatama will become a waterfront district in the inner city
Unique. Modern. Urban. Rising up next to the sea in the heart of Helsinki, the Kalasatama commercial and residential area is all of these. Kalasatama, or ?fish harbour?, is located by the sea in the heart of Helsinki close to the city centre. The transfer of the Sörnäinen Harbour to Vuosaari is setting into motion the biggest process of change in Helsinki in over a hundred years. Moving the harbour away from the city centre provides the opportunity to completely transform the shorelines along Sörnäinen and Hermanni. The premise behind the planning is to transform the harbour and industrial areas into a new seaside district. The proposed city structure highlights the area's urban aspect. Housing will be built for approximately 15,000 residents, which means 5000-7000 apartments. The area will also house around 10,000 workplaces. Read more...
