Helsinki Day in June

Helsinki celebrates and entertains residents and visitors on its birthday, 12 June. Helsinki Day is a city festival that offers lots to see and do for people of all ages. The city centre will be filled with people, music and events.

The Helsinki Day programme includes familiar and popular classics that attract large audiences from one year to the next, such as entertainment on the Espa Stage. In addition, there will be plenty of new events that allow visitors to see and experience Helsinki in a new way. New guided tours and open doors, historical performances and many other events, big and small, have been created especially for this event day.

Helsinki Day will be opened in the morning by Mayor Jussi Pajunen with music by the Helsingin Laulu choir. Afterwards, coffee and rhubarb pie will be served in the courtyard of City Hall starting at 9.15. Adress: Sofiankatu 4 (in front of the City Museum)

Imperial summer holidays

The exhibition Alexander III and Finland in the National Museum showcases the life and leisure of the Russian Imperial family through paintings, watercolours and period items. Emperor Alexander III ruled Russia and served as the Grand Duke of Finland from 1881 to 1894. His Danish-born spouse Dagmar was also known as Maria Fjodorovna.
The exhibition is complemented by numerous period objects, such as glass and silver Fabergé items and items from the Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg. Some of the items from the collections of the State Russian Museum will be displayed in Finland for the first time.

Art All Over

A new community festival, Art All Over, is held on 14–15 June with the theme “Let’s make a festival together”. During the two days, anyone can make art and bring it forward alone or together, at home or on the street, in the yard or in the park. The event will offer a wide range of community arts, from music to installations and video arts to dance. The team behind the festival is the Yhteismaa registered association with focus on participatory events, Extempore.fi – a fastlane to culture, as well as number of people in the field of culture.

Sibelius concert series

Another new event of the season is the Sibelius Finland Experience concert series at the Helsinki Music Centre from 17 June to 8 August. The concerts, performed daily at 12 noon, offer a quality experience where the music of Sibelius and photographs from the Finnish nature meet. The duration of the performance is 45 minutes and bundled with the tickets, priced at 34.50–39.50 euros, comes a Sibelius CD and a party drink after the event.
