Maurice Ehlinger: Dreaming

ART DECO and the
Arts France-Finlande 1905–1935

8.3.–21.7.2013

The Amos Anderson Art Museum presents a selection of masterpieces of French and Finnish art and design with an overview of the breakthrough of Art Deco a hundred years ago.

The museum situated at Yrjönkatu 27 in the centre of Helsinki is the largest private art museum in Finland. The museum is owned and maintained by the arts foundation, Föreningen Konstsamfundet.

The museum is housed in the private home of Amos Anderson (1878-1961), a business man, Member of Parliament and patron of arts. The building from 1913 represents an Art Deco-inspired shift from Art Nouveau to reinterpreted Classicism.

The very best of Finnish Art Deco is juxtaposed in the exhibition with the most refined French design of the age. Interior decoration was an area that was highly influenced by Art Deco. The exhibition focuses especially on the dialogue between theatre and dance on the one hand, and fine arts on the other.

There is a café and a museum shop on the ground floor.

Admission €10, seniors €8, students €2. Under-18s free of charge.
Open: Mon, Thu, Fri 10–18, Wed 10–20, Sat–Sun 11–17. Tuesdays closed.
