Questions and answers
What is Kamppi Family Centre like?
Kamppi Family Centre, which opened on 7 October 2021, is the fourth of its kind in Helsinki. Family centres have already been established in Itäkeskus, Vuosaari and Kallio.
The family centre brings social and healthcare services for children and families under one roof. This ensures comprehensive support for families according to their individual needs.
Providing families with children with services in one location is a major improvement to the current decentralised availability of services. Individual service packages that suit the customers’ needs are designed at family centres.
The centre is designed to offer families with children an open meeting place and provide an area for effective cooperation with various organisations.
Why did the maternity and child health clinics move from Töölö and Laakso to Kamppi?
The plans for Laakso Hospital are being prepared and its construction will begin in 2022 by demolishing building number 4, where the maternity and child health clinic was located previously. Renovations are underway and services are changing in Kivelä as well.
With the opening of Kamppi Family Centre, Töölö, Laakso and Viiskulma maternity and child health clinics received new facilities. Kamppi Family Centre is much more than just a maternity and child health clinic and will also offer an opportunity to cooperate with other providers of services for families with children.
Clients are of course allowed to express their freedom of choice and go to other Helsinki maternity and child health clinics and family centres more suitable to them.
When was the decision on the services to be moved made?
Kamppi Family Centre is part of the reform of Helsinki’s social and healthcare services. Have a look at what we are looking to achieve through the reform.
The matter was discussed by the social services and health care committee on 19 May 2020. The service network plan for the City of Helsinki’s social and healthcare services was approved on 2 September 2014. The plan covers the development of these services until 2030. According to the plan, in 2030 Helsinki should have 1) family centres, 2) health and well-being centres and 3) service centres with extensive services.
