Student welfare services aim to render school a safe and pleasant experience for pupils, who should receive necessary guidance and support when faced with challenging situations.
Comprehensive schools are served by multiple-skill student welfare teams. The teams can include the principal, a school nurse and school doctor, a school social worker, a school psychologist, a special needs teacher and guidance counsellor and when needed, a homeroom or form teacher/group leader. The student welfare team works to promote the wellbeing of the school community and seeks solutions to assist pupils in need for support. General upper secondary schools and Helsinki Vocational College employ student welfare teams.
Student affairs are always handled confidentially in a manner agreed upon with the pupil and his/her parents.
