Starting school

After pre-school, a child will start attending school.

A father takes a picture of his child on the first day of school.

Starting school is a big step for the child and the whole family. It can bring up lots of different questions for the parents. This page has the answers to the most frequently asked questions and some useful links. For example, the Vanhempainnetti service provided by the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare (in Finnish) offers extensive information on starting school and about when the child is ready for school.

Starting school is a new thing for the child. A good tool for learning the ropes is the School pupil’s morning check-list provided by the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare (in Finnish). The link list contains more useful links.

If you have questions about how pupils are accepted into comprehensive school, you can find answers here, for example.
