Diseases and conditions severely weakening immune response

The group includes the following diseases and conditions:

Organ transplant

You belong to the group being vaccinated if

  • you have had an organ transplant and are taking anti-rejection medication.

Stem cell transplant

You belong to the group being vaccinated if

  • you have had a stem cell transplant no more than three years ago or
  • you have had a stem cell transplant more than three years ago and continue to take immunosuppressive anti-rejection medication.

Severe to moderate congenital immunodeficiency

You belong to the group being vaccinated if you have severe or moderate congenital immunodeficiency diagnosed by a physician or reduced immunity due to some other reason. Such diseases and conditions include, for example,

  • common variable immunodeficiency (CVID)
  • cartilage-hair hypoplasia
  • DiGeorge syndrome
  • cyclic neutropenia
  • some other or unspecified neutropenia
  • immunodeficiency predominantly in the form of antibody deficiencies
  • mixed immunodeficiency
  • immunodeficiency due to other serious deficiencies
  • other immunodeficiencies
  • APECED syndrome.

You do not belong to the group being vaccinated if you have:

  • IgA deficiency or lack thereof
  • mannose-binding lectin deficiency
  • partial deficiency of complement factor C4.

Immunosuppressive cancer treatment

You belong to the group being vaccinated if

  • you have received cytostatic therapy within the last year
  • you have received antibody therapy for leukaemia or lymphoma in the previous two years.

Treatment of autoimmune diseases with immunosuppressive biologics or JAK inhibitors

You belong to the group being vaccinated if

  • have an autoimmune disease (e.g. ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and psoriasis) that is being treated with
    • biologics or
    • JAK inhibitors (trade name include Xeljanz/tofasitinibi, Olumiant/barisitinibi, Rinvoq/upadasitinibi, Jyseleca/filgotinibi).

Dialysis and severe chronic renal failure

You belong to the group if

  • you are undergoing dialysis or
  • you have end-stage renal failure (GFR less than 15 ml/min).

This group does not include

  • mild, moderate or severe renal impairment (GFR over 15 ml/min)
  • other kidney diseases.

Advanced or untreated HIV

You belong to the group if you have

  • diagnosed HIV and a CD4 count below 200 x 106 cells/l.

You do not belong to the group if you have

  • diagnosed HIV and a CD4 count above 200 x 106 cells /l.

Other severe immunosuppressive conditions as assessed by a physician

In these cases, you will need an opinion from your attending physician stating that you have a severe immunosuppressive condition and therefore need a third dose of the vaccine. You can consult, if necessary, the consultant physician at the vaccination point in a case of doubt.
