Social work of Developmental Disabilities Services

The objective of the Developmental Disabilities Service's social work is to encourage the customers to live as independent a life as possible during all stages of their life.

Among others, the services include advisory services, situational assessments and service needs assessments, compiling a service plan, arranging suitable services and predicting the future service needs.

The service is applied for from the social worker of Developmental Disabilities Services at the social work unit of the customer's own residential area.

The services are free of charge for the customers.

If the customer needs the Developmental Disabilities Services, a special care programme and, if necessary, a service plan will be compiled for the customer. A social worker will make a presentation for the management team of the special care, in order for them to approve the programme.

A social worker from the Developmental Disabilities Services will assess the situation and service needs of the customer, in cooperation with the customer, Outpatient clinic for the intellectually disabled and/or the possible party that referred the patient forward, such as a hospital. The customer will state the basic information of his or her state of health, implemented procedures and potential service suggestions given by other parties.

Prerequisites:

The customer is intellectually disabled.

The service is only for citizens of Helsinki.
