First-aid extinguishing equipment
First-aid extinguishing equipment refer to portable fire extinguishers, fire blankets, fire hose reels and stirrup pumps. The portable fire extinguishers are extinguishers with a maximum weight of 20 kg. The extinguishing medium used in the portable extinguishers is, for example, powder, a water-based liquid, carbon dioxide and foam.
The event organisers have the obligation to reserve a sufficient amount of appropriate first-aid extinguishing equipment for the venue. The first-aid extinguishing equipment must be placed correctly in accessible locations with suitable signs showing their location.
With regard to the first-aid extinguishing equipment, the following factors should be taken into account:

- 6 kg powder extinguishers with the effect class of at least 34 A 183 BC
- 6 litre liquid extinguishers with the effect class of at least 43 A
- 6 litre foam extinguishers with the effect class of at least 34 A 183 B
- 5 kg carbon dioxide extinguishers (effect class of at least 89 B) in connection to electronic devices.
- In concerts, first aid extinguishing equipment should be placed close to both the stage and the mixing console.
- In buildings and temporary structures, there is at least 1 first aid extinguishing device for every 300 m2.
- At least one extinguisher and a fire blanket must be placed near to a location where liquefied petroleum gas is used.
- At least two fire extinguishers (effect class of at least 43A 183BC) of extinguishing must be reserved for special effect performances and fire shows.
- A class F food grease fire extinguisher is recommended to be next to a deep fat fryer.
- Extinguishers used in dry premises with even temperatures must be inspected at least every two years by an authorised inspection company.
- Extinguishers that are exposed to dampness, vibrations or changing temperatures must be inspected at least once a year by an authorised inspection company.
- The portable fire extinguishers must be maintained by a portable fire extinguishing company authorised by the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) after every use and whenever some deviation is observed during an inspection. The maximum maintenance interval of liquid extinguishers is five years. The maximum maintenance interval for other types of portable fire extinguishers is ten years.
