Event grants

Sports Services' event grants are allocated annually. Information on how to apply for event grants for 2018 will be published on this page in December 2017.

Sports Services will distribute EUR 77,000 in event grants for sports events to be organised in 2017 

Event grants can only be issued to registered associations, companies, or communities whose domicile is Helsinki, and who have submitted the grant application through the electronic system at asiointi.hel.fi by Tuesday, 31 January 2017, or on paper at the City registry by 4pm on Tuesday, 31 January 2017.

The grants are divided into three categories:
- Small-scale regional sports events, EUR 200 - 1,000
- Medium-sized sports events, EUR 1,000 - 5,000
- Large sports events that bring the cityscape to life and also have an international dimension, EUR 5,000 - 20,000

The allocation criteria for event grants in 2017 emphasize the visibility of the Finland 100 celebration year in events

Eligibility criteria for event grants

1) Event grants can be issued for sports events held in the City of Helsinki area that encourage participants to exercise and/or bring the cityscape to life. The level of the events may be no higher than the national youth series, organised under sports federations (Finnish Youth Championships).

2) The following aspects are emphasised in allocating the grants:
- The extent, versatility, and internationality of the event
- The visibility of the event in the Helsinki cityscape
- The introduction of new groups of people to the sport
- Investments in youth activities and/or the prevention of social exclusion
- The consideration of environmental aspects
The allocation criteria for event grants in 2017 emphasize the events' links to the Finland 100 celebration year

3) Grants are not issued for the following events:
- Ordinary competition activities of sports associations
- Sports associations' internal events
- Camp or course activities organised by sports associations
- Adult national top-level competitions (Finnish Championships)
- International top-level competitions (Nordic, European, or World Championships).

Event grants are allocated in accordance with the City of Helsinki's general terms and conditions for allocating grants (City of Helsinki Economic Development and Planning Centre 12 December 2011). Sports Services do not issue multiple different grants for a single event, only a single event grant.
