Application Schedules

Arts and culture grants under 50,000 euros can be continuously applied for. However, when applying for a grant for a full calendar year, the application must be submitted before the beginning of the year in question by the date stated in the application deadline. Grants are not awarded retrospectively. Arts and culture grants, basic arts education grants and development grants of 50,000 euros or more have specific application periods. All applications must be submitted by 4 pm on the last application day at the latest.


Arts and culture grants

Arts and culture grants for 2019

Arts and culture grants of less than 50,000 euros for continuous or project-based activities taking place in 2019 can be applied for during the continuous application procedure for 2019.

The preparation and decision schedule of spring 2019 is as follows:   

  • Deadline for applications April 12, 2019 4 pm – Decisions at the Culture and Library Sub-committee's meeting on May 28, 2019.

The preparation and decision schedule of fall 2019 is as follows:   

  • Deadline for applications August 16, 2019 4 pm – Decisions at the Culture and Library Sub-committee's meeting on October 1, 2019.
  • Deadline for applications September 27, 2019 4 pm – Decisions at the Culture and Library Sub-committee's meeting on November 12, 2019.
  • Deadline for applications November 1, 2019 4 pm – Decisions at the Culture and Library Sub-committee's meeting on December 10, 2019.
  • Deadline for applications December 4, 2019 4 pm – Decisions at the Culture and Library Sub-committee's first meeting in 2020 (the meeting time will be confirmed in December 2019).

Please note: We recommend that you submit your Arts and Culture Grant application regarding 2019 no later than September 27, 2019 due to limited funding available for the remainder of the year.

The schedule of municipal officeholder decisions mainly follows that of the Culture and Library Sub-committee's meetings.

Grants of 50,000 euros or more can be applied once a year for the following year. 

Arts and culture grants for 2020

The deadline for applications for arts and culture grants of 50,000 euros or more for continuous and project-based activities in 2020 was August 30, 2019 4 pm. Decisions will be made at the Culture and Library Sub-committee's meetings during the year of 2019.

The deadline for applications for arts and culture grants of less than 50,000 euros for continuous and project-based activities beginning during the first three months of 2020 was August 30, 2019 4 pm. Decisions will be made at the Culture and Library Sub-committee's meetings during the year of 2019.

Arts and culture grants under 50,000 euros can be continuously applied for according to the preparation and decision schedule for 2020. However, when applying for a grant for continuous activities covering the whole of 2020, the application period ends on December 4, 2019 at 4 pm.

The preparation and decision schedule of spring 2020 will be informed in December 2019. Decisions on the applications submitted by December 4, 2019 4pm will be made  at the Culture and Library Sub-committee's first meeting in 2020.

Multi-year arts and culture grants

The multi-year grants are mainly intended for operators who have previously been granted a minimum of 50,000 euros in financial support. The deadline for new applications on multi-year grants was August 30, 2019 4 pm. Decisions will be made at the Culture and Library Sub-committee's meetings during the year of 2019.

Grants for Alppipuisto summer events in 2020

The deadline for applications is December 4, 2019 at 16.00. Decisions will be made at the Culture and Library Sub-committee's first meeting in 2020. Read more

The application deadline for basic arts education grants was August 30, 2019 4 pm. Decisions will be made at the Culture and Library Sub-committee's meetings during the year of 2019.


Development grants

The deadline for applications for development grants was August 30, 2019 4 pm.  Decisions will be made at the Culture and Library Sub-committee's meetings during the year of 2019.


Invitation for ideas for the Helsinki Biennial in summer 2020

The City of Helsinki and HAM Helsinki Art Museum are organising a contemporary art biennial in 2020 on Vallisaari Island in Helsinki. The purpose of the invitation is to find ideas that will complement the biennial. They can be events, performances, engage the audience in different ways, or deal with the history of Vallisaari. The invitation will run from April 29 to May 17, 2019. The application period has ended on May 17, 2019 4 pm. Read more
