A city by the sea

The location by the sea is a vital part of the basic character and essence of Helsinki. Every Helsinki resident can say that they live within 10 kilometres from the seashore. Living by the sea is a popular option; the housing supply has increased and the range of housing options has grown.

The city by the sea also offers opportunities for recreational activities and new businesses. Helsinki has about 130 km of public, open coastal trails. New islands which recently opened for recreational use offer inhabitants and visitors the chance to get to know the Helsinki archipelago.
