Tramline traffic upgrades

Helsinki is being built on rail traffic and tram operations are also set to increase in the near future.

The plans include extending tram line 9 to Ilmala and including the new residential district in Kalasatama in the tram traffic network. After the Kruunuvuori Bridge is completed, tram traffic will also extend to the east.

In addition to the new lines, upgrades are also planned for the tram fleet. A tramcar with a low-floor middle section increasing accessibility has already been added to the articulated trams from the 1980s, and most from the 1970s. In addition to this, 40 new low-floor Artic trams have been ordered for Helsinki. The first two trams are already in the test drive phase. These mass-produced trams will be delivered to HKL between 2016 and 2018.
