Social assistance

Social assistance, or income support, is the last resort form of financial assistance. Basic social assistance may be available to individuals and families whose income and assets do not cover their essential daily expenses. This quick guide tells you how to apply for social assistance. 

Supplementary and preventive social assistance will continue to be provided by the City of Helsinki

Before applying for supplementary social assistance you will first need a decision from Kela concerning basic social assistance. The assistance is applied for at the social work units for young people or adults.
