Informal care is care and attendance provided by family members or other persons close to elderly or handicapped people or people suffering from illnesses who live in their own homes and whose ability to function has weakened.

Informal care support consists of services for people in informal care, fees and vacations for caregivers and services that support informal care.

An informal caregiver can be a family member, other relative or other person close to the care recipient who can manage the task in terms of their own health and ability to function.

Caregivers sign an informal care agreement with the municipality. However, they are not employees of the municipality, the care recipients or the guardians of the care recipients.
