Geographic data materials
The City of Helsinki map and geographic information datasets include the geographic information datasets themselves, various cartographic materials based on those datasets and registers maintained for different purposes. The datasets are produced and updated by City departments.
The City maintains several Web services for the utilization of the datasets and registers. Geographic information maintained by The City of Helsinki is the most accurate and up-to-date cartographic source of information about Helsinki.
Geographic coordinate system and height system
The City of Helsinki introduced a new Geographic coordinate system and height system in December 2012. The system reform was carried out simultaneously throughout the Helsinki Metropolitan Area.
Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen use the following systems:
• ETRS-GK25 coordinate system, based on the Finnish version EUREF-FIN of the European ETRS89 coordinate system. International identification code: EPSG:3879.
• N2000 height system.
The former systems, "The City of Helsinki coordinate system" and "NN" height system will be discarded in due course.
