Sea water temperature and amount of algae

The water quality and the state of the sea area is monitored biweekly through water samples and various measurements. Measurements are carried out on several stations dispersed throughout the sea area of the Helsinki metropolitan area, from shallow bays to deeper open sea stations.

The water quality has been regularly monitored since 1966 and the collected data set is unique, even on a global scale.

Below, the weekly long term means for surface water temperature, chlorophyll-a concentration, which indicates the amount of photosynthesizing algae, and the Secchi depth are presented.

Further information for other areas along with data summaries can be obtained from the Environment services.
