Vocational upper secondary education for adults
Adults in vocational upper secondary education can acquire a new occupation or complement their existing job skills. Studies can be conducted parallel to employment, in apprenticeship training, in labour market training and in personnel training.
Vocational upper secondary education for adults can lead to a vocational upper secondary degree, further vocational qualifications, specialist vocational qualifications or a part of some degree or qualifications. These degrees and qualifications qualify students for further studies at universities.
Adults in vocational upper secondary education usually earn competence-based qualifications. To earn these qualifications, students study according to individual study plans which take into account their skills acquired on the job, in training and in pastime activities. Students with adequate skills can earn competence-based qualifications based on these skills.
Students normally attend preparatory training to acquire necessary vocational skills. For competence-based qualifications, vocational skills are demonstrated in real workplace production and service duties.
The City of Helsinki provides vocational upper secondary education for adults at Helsinki Vocational Adult Institute. Vocational upper secondary education for adults is also provided by private vocational institutions.
