South of Kulosaari, about 5 km from city centre
Mustikkamaa has been a popular outdoor recreation area for generations. It is known for its excellent recreation facilities as well as its Midsummer dances and summer theatre. The summer restaurant, which dates from 1921, is a good example of wooden architecture in the period. Many people like to fish in the sea around Mustikkamaa.
In the past, people had to take a boat to the island. Since 1964, a bridge has connected it to Kulosaari. The bridge leading to Korkeasaari and the Helsinki Zoo was completed a decade later. The Mustikkamaa Recreational Park was established in 1921 and covers about 36 hectares.
