Boating

Taivallahti marina

The coastal location of Helsinki offers great opportunities for boating. Boat harbours are managed by the Sports Services of Helsinki and several boat clubs and associations.

The city’s guest harbour is located at Katajanokka right next to the Kauppatori plaza and its varied services. The Suomenlinna Fortress, Pihlajasaari and Valkosaari also offer guest harbour berths.

Sports Hall’s customer service point for berth reservations closes

Sports Hall’s customer service point for boat berth reservations closes, and the berth customer service staff moves to Vallila. In summer 2020, the customer service for berth reservations will be organised by phone and online. In the autumn, if the coronavirus situation allows, personal guidance services will be available by appointment.

You can contact the berth reservation services in the summer online at venepaikat.hel.fi/en, by email at venepaikkavaraukset@hel.fi, and by phone on +358 9 310 87900 (Mon–Thu 9.00–12.00). In matters related to maintenance, you can directly contact Juha Hjelt (east) at itainenveneilytiimi@hel.fi and Tomi Bruns (west) at lantinenveneilytiimi@hel.fi.

Payments will be taken care of via emailed invoices. If you wish to pay for your berth in cash, please contact the berth reservation services.

If the coronavirus situation allows, personal guidance services will continue by appointment at our new premises in Fredriksberg, Vallila (Konepajankatu 1).

Applying for winter storage spaces 2020–2021

Applying for winter storage spaces in the 2020–2021 season is now current. Customers who have had a square space in the last season will be sent an invoice for the space. If you are a new applicant, you can apply for a square space by filling out the online application at venepaikat.hel.fi/en/berths. Available squares will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis in the autumn. We will send offers for these spaces by e-mail.

Customers who have had a winter storage space in a hoisting order area will not be sent an invoice. Instead, they can pay their fee onto the berth reservation account after the boat has been brought to the hoisting order area. We will provide information about paying for hoisting order area spaces later online at this webpage and on the information boards of hoisting order areas. Customers who have paid for a winter storage space will be sent a winter storage sticker to be attached to their boats on a visible spot.

Boaters can bring their boats to the hoisting order area of their choosing starting from 15 September 2020. Please note that boats must not be brought to hoisting order areas before the storage season starts on 15 September.

Announcement for applicants of winter storage places of boats

Due to the introduction of a new system, customer service for berth reservations is backed up, and the processing of winter storage places on hoisting order areas is also behind schedule. Therefore, we will use the old system for one more season.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THOSE WISHING TO STORE THEIR BOAT ON HOISTING ORDER AREAS, INCLUDING THOSE WHO ALREADY APPLIED FOR A PLACE ONLINE:

1. Look for a suitable spot for your boat on the hoisting order area. The western hoisting order areas are Hernesaari, Pajalahti, Kaisaniemi, and Lähteelä, and the eastern ones are Ruusuniemi I and II, Puotila, Marjaniemi, and Strömsinlahti.

2. Once you find a suitable place, come to the boat berth reservations office to pay for the winter storage (card payments only). We are open Mon–Fri 9.00–16.00 at Paavo Nurmen kuja 1 E, 00250 Helsinki. Once you have paid, you will receive a sticker proving your right for winter storage.

3. Hoist your boat on the area and attach the sticker on a visible place on your boat or docking equipment.

The application for client-specific square spaces remains online at venepaikat.hel.fi. The number of square spaces is limited, and due to the large number of applicants, we cannot grant everyone a square space.

Ahti will help discovering Helsinki archipelago with one app

Helsinki City is developing a new service that gathers the possibilities of archipelago in one single platform. Ahti is a mobile optimized web page where user can find information, services, routes and for example boat rides. Idea is to inspire people to go and explore the possibilities of Helsinki archipelago, whether you are a boat owner or not.

Ahti is now in its second staging version and collecting feedback. You can test the beta version at ahti.app. If feedback is good, Ahti is planned to be ready for Helsinki Biennial in summer 2020.
