Kotoklubi Kaneli - adults and children learn Finnish together

Everyone is welcome to the playground’s Kotoklubi Kaneli (“home club cinnamon”). At Kotoklubi Kaneli, everyday Finnish is learnt by singing, playing, moving and doing arts and crafts together with children and parents. The sessions make use of the Toisto method.

At Kotoklubi Kaneli

  • children make friends and discover new places to play
  • parents meet other parents in a similar situation in life and discover new places to meet
  • participants gain courage to use the Finnish words they have learnt in everyday life
  • participants learn about the culture in Finland and Helsinki and tell about their own culture to others
  • integration is a joint effort!

Activities take place indoors at playgrounds and family houses.

The Finnish Refugee Council awarded the Integration Act 2017 Recognition to the Kotoklubi Kaneli activities.

Digital playground

Digital playground (digileikkipuisto) is for practicing useful basic digital skills and the Finnish language under the instruction of a digital skills teacher and Kotoklubi Kaneli’s instructor at playgrounds in Helsinki.

The activities are intended for parents of young children whose native language is not Finnish. Anyone who wishes to learn digital skills and the Finnish language is welcome to join the activities. Children are welcome to attend the sessions. Participation is free of charge and does not require registration.

The low-threshold activities provide help for the use of different services, e.g. Wilma, HSL Journey Planner, online banking and Google as well as for the use of e-services of Kela, the City of Helsinki and health care. The instruction language is Finnish.
