Applying for early childhood education

Apply for early childhood education no later than four months before your child needs care, even if you were in the process of applying for a job, study place or an apartment in Helsinki. The earliest you can you can submit your application is 12 months before your child needs early childhood education. We will keep your application on file for 12 months.

If you need early childhood education due to an unforeseen reason, you should apply for a place as soon as possible, but no later than two weeks before your child needs care. You are asked to provide proof why your need for care services is unforeseen.

As a rule, we do not process applications as urgent, and applying for a job is not an unforeseen situation. In this case, an application for early childhood education should be submitted as usual and no later than four months before the child needs care.

Your application can be considered urgent and the need for early childhood education unforeseen only if you receive a study place from a waiting list.

Currently two online systems for applying

We are currently using two online application systems for early childhood education services: the new Asti online service City of Helsinki e-Services and. This is because Asti will be introduced gradually and step-by-step, and both systems are needed in this interim phase.

  • Apply on Asti to:
    • municipal daycare centres
    • family daycare
    • group family daycare
    • three-family daycare
    • evening care
    • round-the clock care
    • early childhood education in North Sami in Daycare Susanna.

On Asti, you can edit your applications until the stated due date.

If you or your family do not have Finnish personal identity code, online banking credentials, or if electronic application is otherwise not possible for you, apply by completing the PDF application form to early childhood education, and send it to Service guidance for early childhood education, Töysänkatu 2 D, PO Box 51300, 00099 City of Helsinki or to whom electronic application is otherwise not possible.
