You can find the information on weighted-curriculum education admissions from the guides for first-, second- and sixth-graders:
Some schools in Helsinki offer weighted-curriculum education, which means instruction that emphasises a certain school subject, such as music, physical education or a language. Therefore, the school week in weighted-curriculum instruction can be 1 to 2 hours longer than in regular classroom instruction. A pupil can start in weighted-curriculum education in the 1st, 3rd or 7th grade.
To gain admission in weighted-curriculum education, a pupil must take an aptitude test. The aim of the aptitude test is to find out the pupil’s ability in the applied subject. Schools that offer the same weighted-curriculum subjects use joint aptitude tests that take place at the same time (except for the Helsinki Normal Lyceum, which has its own aptitude test in Latin).
