Religion and ethics studies

Religion and ethics studies are intended to build common knowledge about religious and ethical matters. Pupils and students participate in religious studies conducted in accordance with the mainstream religion, Orthodox religious studies or ethical studies.

Pupils and students who are members of other religious communities study their own religion or choose one of the other alternatives. Guardians enroll them in these studies with a specific form. Religion and ethics is a compulsory subject in comprehensive school. The instruction is independent of any political affiliation and religiously non-denominational (not related to or according to the principles of a particular religious denomination).

Religious upbringing of children is the duty of families. Schools inform guardians of the religious events at the school in the beginning of the school year. Guardians decide whether or not their children participate in these events.
