Types of special needs classes

Regional special needs class

  • Group of 10 pupils
  • A special class teacher
  • A special needs assistant is usually present.
  • Intended for pupils who require support for learning and schoolwork and who benefit from studying in a smaller group.

Special needs class at a special needs school

  • Group of 10 pupils
  • A special class teacher
  • A special needs assistant is usually present.
  • Special needs schools are intended for pupils with a significant need for support.

Special needs class for extended compulsory education

  • Group of 6–8 pupils
  • A special class teacher
  • One or more special needs assistants present
  • Intended for pupils who have are entitled to extended compulsory education due to disability or illness.

Supported special needs class

  • A group of 8 pupils in grades 1–6 and 10 pupils in grades 7–9.
  • The class has a special class teacher, a special needs teacher and a special needs assistant
  • intended for pupils who have psychological symptoms and who need significant support for their studies, as well as psychiatric care.
