Afternoon activities at playgrounds

Service description

Registration for next year’s afternoon activities at playgrounds usually takes place the previous spring, at the same time as registration for afternoon care arranged by schools.

Registration for the 2020–2021 school year will be from 23 March to 8 May 2020

Print out the registration form found on this website. You can sign up for a daily snack for a monthly fee on the same form.

NOTE: Due to the coronavirus outbreak, you cannot pick up or deliver the registration form to your playground of choice in person.

You can send the form via secure email, which requires that you verify your identity with a bank code, mobile ID, or an official ID card that contains a chip. This identity verification acts as your signature on the form.

As not all of the service is available in English, this requires the following steps:

  1. Download and save the registration form you need to your computer.
  2. Open the saved form and fill it in, then save it under the pupil’s name as so: lastname_firstname.
  3. Go to the website link that reads Send the afternoon activity form via secure email. You will find the link and the blank forms at the foot of the page.
  4. Add your email address to the Lähettäjä (= Sender) field, and proceed to verify your identity.
  5. Continue through the process until you reach Uusi viesti (= New message) view. Enter IP-hakemus (= Afternoon activity registration) in the subject field.
In the lower corner, click on Valitse tiedostot (= Choose file). Search for the lastname_firstname file you just saved on your computer and choose it as your attachment by clicking on Liitä (= Add attachment).
To finish, click on Lähetä (= Send).

Or send the form by mail to, Education Division, Afternoon activities, PO Box 51300, 00099 City of Helsinki or drop off the form between 8 am and 4 pm at the City of Helsinki’s Education Division offices at Töysänkatu 2 D, in Helsinki’s Valilla district.

Parents and guardians will receive a decision on the child’s placement by 1 June 2020.

It is also possible to apply for afternoon activities at playgrounds at other times during the school year. Outside the application period, enrolment forms for afternoon playground activities should be submitted at the playground. Look for contact information of playground from Service Map.

Safe and secure environment

Playground instructors are on hand at all times to supervise activities and ensure children’s safety. The instructors will agree on specific arrival and pick-up times with each of the parents and guardians. The City of Helsinki insures children in afternoon activities at playgrounds for the time they are in the playground space.

Schoolchildren can bring their own snacks, but a daily snack is also available for a monthly fee of €36.10. Parents and guardians without extra funds can apply to waive the monthly fee, if necessary.

Activities during school breaks and holidays
