Local safety planning

The City of Helsinki safety planning aims to improve everyday safety by reducing emergencies, accidents, crime and disorder, as well as to increase perceived safety and general trust.

The City safety plan presents collaborative measures. The plan stems from an evaluation of the local safety status, which forms the basis of measures to improve safety and perceived safety.

The overall safety sector in Helsinki also incorporates prevention of domestic violence, violence in close relationships and accidents. The Helsinki Mayor has appointed separate multidisciplinary workforces for 2011-2014 to prevent such violence and accidents at home and during leisure.

City authorities also provide services that increase the wellbeing of citizens of all ages in all life situations and prevent social exclusion. Measures to diminish inequality between residents and neighbourhoods can impact the safety of the city and the larger community.
