Municipal elections are held every fourth year. The next election will be held on 9 April 2017. Advance voting is in Finland from 29 March to 4 April 2017 and abroad from 29 March to 1 April 2017.
Municipal elections are held to elect the councillors of the municipalities. Helsinki City Council has 85 permanent members.
By voting in municipal elections you can influence the decisions on issues that affect your daily life such as health care, youth facilities, child day care, libraries, school meals, local traffic and elderly care.

Major changes to Helsinki City organization
The Helsinki City Council has approved a major organizational reform that will fundamentally alter the City of Helsinki organizational structure. Helsinki will introduce a new mayoral system, and the current departments and municipal enterprises will be reorganized into administrative sectors according to their functions.
The new organizational structure will be introduced at the beginning of the next City Council term after the municipal elections of 2017.
