7 October: Emergency accommodation for asylum seekers discussed during Questioning Hour

Helsinki provides emergency accommodation for hundreds of asylum seekers daily, said Mayor Jussi Pajunen answering the question of Councillor Johanna Sumuvuori during the Council Questioning Hour. Helsinki has agreed with the Finnish Immigration Service that the City will always provide overnight emergency accommodation for asylum seekers and that the Immigration Service assigns the asylum seekers to reception centres the next day.

29 September: Asylum seekers accommodated at Kaukokiito Motel in Metsälä

The City Board decided to increase asylum seeker accommodation operations. A new place of accommodation is the Kaukokiito Motel in Metsälä.

9 September: City Council discussion on asylum seeker situation

The City Council discussed the asylum seeker situation, when Mayor Jussi Pajunen answered Councillor Björn Månsson’s question concerning the matter.

24 August: Helsinki temporarily expands reception services for persons requiring international protection

The City Board approved the number of places of accommodation exceeding the number agreed by the City and the Finnish Immigration Service concerning the organization of reception services and custody for persons applying for international protection.
