Economic policy

According to Helsinki’s economic policy, the City should act to ensure a competitive business environment and to promote the success of commerce and industry in the city. The City’s economic policy is designed to grow the number of jobs in Helsinki.

Successful commerce and industry provides work for residents, enables versatile commercial services for both residents and enterprises and lays the foundation for public services through tax income.

The City Executive Office’s Economic Development division is responsible for economic policy development, the City’s investment and business promotion, business information, and travel and convention marketing.

The division manages the City’s employment affairs and produces services supporting employment for Helsinki residents. The division oversees the City’s interests in immigration affairs, makes strategic plans for work-based immigration and monitors the implementation of the City’s immigration policy. The division also organises and coordinates the City’s international activities and international city policies.
