Child health clinic services

The purpose of child health clinic work is to secure the best possible health of every child and support parenting and the relationship so that the child can have the best possible conditions for growth and healthy development.

Scheduled check-up programme by the child health clinic

Child health clinic work is carried out by a public health nurse and a doctor in co-operation with other specialists.

The numbers of appointments and home visits varies based on the child's and family's individual needs and wishes. You can book an appointment through the electronic service or the centralised telephone service at your own clinic.

Extended health check-ups

The extended health check-ups focus on the health and well-being of the entire family. Extended health check-ups include check-ups carried out by both a public health nurse and a doctor. The child health clinic offers three extended health check-ups: when the child is 4 months old, 18 months old and 4 years old. Both parents are invited to take part in the check-up. The parents are requested to prepare for the extended health check-up by thinking about their living habits, use of intoxicants and everyday resources in advance at home. During the visit, the parents can bring up matters that are important to them.

The child's oral health check-ups take place when the child is 1, 3 and 5 years old, at an appointment with either a dental assistant or a dental hygienist. A public health nurse will review the child's oral health during the child's 2-year-old check-up.
