The instructors are assigned to act as the initiator person responsible for the Neighbourhood circle, and to ensure that everything necessary gets done.
It is recommended that practical matters, such as making coffee and setting the table, be distributed to the people in the circle. This is to avoid everything being left for the instructor, and to ensure that those coming to the meeting can feel that they are participating in something.
The model for the Neighbourhood circle has been developed by active volunteer Kalevi Möttönen and Herttoniemi community worker Soile Atacocugu since 2010.
The instructors of a Neighbourhood circle act as volunteers within the Department of Social Services and Health Care. They receive no compensation for what they do, nor are they expected to be professionals. No special skills are required. They will always have a professional to turn to for support.
No special knowledge or skills are required to take part in the activities.
The service is intended for residents of Helsinki.
