Ear acupuncture

Substance abuse rehabilitation clinics offer a five-point ear acupuncture treatment as part of the planned comprehensive treatment.

A five-point ear acupuncture method can be used at all stages of substance abuse rehabilitation treatment, from treating acute withdrawal symptoms to long-term rehabilitation. Acupuncture can also help to support staying sober, because it can help ease the craving for intoxicants and relieve stress.

Acupuncture is at its most helpful when used together with other kinds of treatment.
The acupuncture needles are inserted in certain points of the earlobe. The needles used in ear acupuncture are small, and they are inserted to the skin superficially. If the technique is right, the treatment causes little or no pain. The acupuncture points can be used to relieve or remove pain or to calm and relax the body and mind. These acupuncture points can also alleviate troubles sleeping and decrease stress.

The treatment is usually given in an open, quiet group. The needles are usually kept in place for 40-45 minutes. At first, the treatment is given more often, and as the problems subside, the treatment intervals can increase.
