Rescue operations

Rescue operations are in charge of securing a person's life or health when a fire or some other accident, or a threat of them, requires urgent measures. Rescue operations are also in charge of protecting or rescuing property and the environment.

Rescue operations include accepting emergency calls, warning the population, preventing a threatening accident, protecting and saving people, the environment and property in danger, as well as extinguishing fires and limiting the damages.

The Helsinki City Rescue Department is in charge of rescue operations in the City of Helsinki's area. The rescue operations are prepared 24/7 all year round.
Any collaborative operations exceeding the borders of the Rescue Department have been agreed upon through a cooperation agreement with the Rescue Departments of Helsinki and Eastern, Central and Western Uusimaa.
