The algae reports are targeted at the citizens, and during the summer months they are implemented in connection with the reports about the swimming water.
The reports describe the water quality in sea areas, taking into account any recreational uses. The quality of sea water is monitored regularly at several observation points in front of Helsinki and Espoo.
The Environment Centre participates in the Alg@line monitoring project, which collects data about the Baltic Sea's condition. The monitoring is based on measurements from continuous measurement devices on-board passenger and trade ships, which also take water samples from desired sample points.
