Group therapy is structured, goal-oriented, fixed-term therapy which utilises peer support. Participation requires the patient to have motivation to examine their own illness and life situation, as well as preparedness for performing various exercises.
The general objectives of group therapy are:
- receiving up-to-date information about the illness
- recognising symptoms related to the illness
- finding new coping and control methods and practising them
- receiving support through the experiences of others
The patient is invited to an interview, which assesses their suitability for group therapy and its timeliness.
The service is intended for residents of Helsinki.
