Child welfare family care in a professional family home
Children requiring special care, siblings, and teenagers are placed into professional family homes.
In a professional family home, at least one of the foster parents stays at home full-time, taking care of the placed children and one parent must also have an education in social care, pedagogy and/or health care. At the same time, three or four children are placed in municipal, professional family homes.
Municipal professional family homes operate in buildings, assigned by the municipality. The Family Care service is reliable for training the professional family carers, providing the annual trainings and the work guidance.
Also, private companies and organisations all over Finland organise professional family care operations. The City of Helsinki also purchases services from these professional family homes.
