Short-term institutional care of the elderly

Short-term care of the elderly is a preventative operation, which maintains and promotes functional abilities in a target-oriented manner. Short-term care supports
the well-being and health of senior citizens living at home. In addition, short-term care also supports the resources of carer.

The service is applied for from Senior Info.

The services are available through Helsinki senior centres and purchased service units.

The charge for care and maintenance is up to 32.50 euros per day. This fee counts towards the payment limit defined in the Customer Fee Act. After reaching the payment limit, a daily charge of €15.10 will be applied to the short-term institutional care.


The service is primarily intended for a person over 65 years of age, who requires temporary 24-hour institutional care for the duration of his or her carer's vacation.

The service is only for citizens of Helsinki.
