Medical Helpline 116 117

Call the number 116 117 before you go to the emergency clinic.
You can also ask for advice in sudden health problems when
your health station is closed. We will instruct you to the correct place of care and also give advice on self-care. The service is open 24/7. Health care professionals answer your phone calls and consult a doctor, if needed.

If the call cannot be answered at once, a call-back service is in use. If you have a referral to an emergency room, you can go direct to the emergency clinic.

In life-threatening emergencies (e.g. hard chest pain, breathing problems, unconsciousness, stroke symptoms, convulsions) call 112 for help.

The Medical Helpline number is 116 117 (free of charge).

In urgent situations you can seek medical help at an emergency clinic direct, if the Medical Helpline number is not answering in appropriate time.


The service for citizens of Helsinki is organised by the City of Helsinki. The same service in other parts of HUS district is organised by HUS. The service will be a nationwide service from the beginning of 2021.
