Disabled service's equipment or device installed permanently into an apartment

The service is intended for a person with severe disabilities, who requires permanently installed equipment and devices in his or her apartment, in order to continue living at home. The purpose is that the person can live in the apartment as independently as possible.

The equipment or devices may include, for example, devices that enable moving around, such as a ceiling lift or a stair lift, or other equipment facilitating moving around, such as an electric lock of the apartment/building and other door opening devices. In addition, these include fixed induction loops or visual alarm systems for people with hearing disabilities.

The service is applied for via the social worker of the social work services for the disabled of the customer's own residential area, through a Disabled Services Application form. Swedish-speaking customers should apply for the services via the Eastern Office of the social work services for the disabled, where they can receive service in Swedish.

A Building Engineer from the Real Estate Department will compile the execution plan and take care of the necessary permit applications. For those with hearing disabilities, the execution plan is made by a rehabilitation director from HUS.

The companies of the field will deliver and install the equipment and devices to the apartments.

The services are free of charge for the customers.


The severity of the customer's disability is assessed, based on a medical certificate. As estimate of the functional limitations is made, based on the statement given by a functional therapist and physiotherapist. A social worker will define the devices and equipment necessary due to the functional abilities and disabilities, in cooperation with the customer.

The service is only for citizens of Helsinki.
