The municipalities do not have the obligation to pay for the apartment renovations, if the sufficient care for the person with several disabilities cannot be ensured through the measures of non-institutional care.
The service is applied for via the social worker of the social work services for the disabled of the customer's own residential area, through a Disability Services Application form. Swedish-speaking customers should apply for the services via the Eastern Office of the social work services for the disabled, where they can receive service in Swedish.
When assessing the need for renovations, a statement from a functional therapist or physiotherapist is usually required. Therefore, one of these specialists often take part in the home visit, together with the social worker from the services for the disabled and a Technical Building Manager from the Real Estate Department, when considering the renovations works and the different implementation options. The social worker will make the final decision on which of the suggested renovations will be compensated on the basis of the Disability Services Act.
Professional contractors of the field will carry out the renovations necessary due to the disability, the reasonable costs of which will be compensated as a disability service.
The services are free of charge for the customers.
The severity of the customer's disability is assessed, based on a medical certificate. As estimate of the functional limitations is made, based on the statement given by a functional therapist or physiotherapist. The social worker will assess the renovation works necessary due to the customer's functional abilities or disability, in cooperation with the customer.
