Day activities for the elderly

By providing day activities, we support the functional ability, rehabilitation and living at home of informal care receivers and elderly people living alone with memory disorders or other illnesses. At the same time, we also support the coping of informal caregivers and next of kin.

You can apply for day activities by contacting Senior Info. We will start by assessing your service needs. After that, you will receive a decision informing you whether or not you have been granted access to day activities. If you are already a home care or informal care customer and would like to participate in day activities, do not hesitate to contact your designated worker.

We will prepare an individual care and service plan for each day activity customer. The days typically include exercise, outdoor activities, manual skills and other group activities. We also plan activities in cooperation with our customers. During the day, we serve the participants breakfast, lunch and afternoon coffee. If you wish, you may also request for group transport to and from the location in which the day activities are held.

Usually, the customer attends day activities once a week. A full day of activities lasts for approximately six hours. A half-day lasts up to four hours.

We organise day activities at our own senior centres and assisted living facilities, as outsourced services and with a service voucher. If you opt for the service voucher, you will cover part of the activity costs to the company organising them.

You can find more information on the service voucher for day activities of the elderly in the service (in Finnish or Swedish) under the heading 'Helsingin sosiaali- ja terveystoimi -> Ikääntyneiden päivätoiminnan palveluseteli'.
