Preventative mental health and substance abuse work with adults (ETY)

The purpose of preventative mental health and substance abuse work with adults is to promote a substance-free life style through knowledge, self-assessments and early intervention. The target group consists of adults living in Helsinki. Merely decreasing the consumption of substances is already a factor that promotes mental health, as it mitigates the symptoms of depression, for example.

The purpose of the work is to decrease the substance consumption of the Helsinki citizens and to promote their mental health. The citizens are provided with information on the harmful effects of substance abuse and tools that help to prevent them. They are made more aware of preventative mental health work. The operations are targeted at the citizens, both directly and through professionals. The customer receives information, assessment tools and peer support for independent life style changes. The aim is to also provide the professionals with sufficient tools and competence. The work is promoted via various city-level programmes, through producing materials and events and via a partnership principal by raising awareness of the work and networks of other operators and participating in them. Training events are organised for the professionals.
