Medical aid services

The assistive equipment services are intended for Helsinki
residents (over 16 years of age) whose ability to function is reduced.

The assistive devices are always borrowed for personal use, and the borrower is asked to present the device user's personal ID or Kela card. The assistive equipment available for borrowing is primarily used, appropriately cleaned and maintained. The assistive equipment services can be used free of charge.

The most common assistive devices can be borrowed from assistive equipment services without an appointment or a referral. These devices include but are not limited to:

- crutches
- walkers
- basic wheelchairs
- toilet raisers
- shower stools
- sock aids
- gripping aids.

Borrowing assistive equipment requiring a more individual assessment requires an appointment.

This equipment includes but is not limited to:

- active wheelchairs
- tilting shower chairs with wheels
- personal lifting devices.

Assistive equipment made for individual use and other personal assistive devices, such as prostheses, orthopaedic footwear, support stockings or wigs, are always acquired for the first time based on the initiative of a doctor or a therapist. Rehabilitation planners are responsible for acquiring the equipment.

Transporting assistive equipment

Customers are primarily responsible for transporting their assistive equipment. Assistive equipment services take care of transporting large and heavy assistive equipment, such as personal lifting devices and electric
beds.

Returning assistive equipment

When no longer needed, the assistive equipment must be returned as soon as possible.
